Warm Water Aquatic Program
Improving and Extending Quality of Life

Warm water adaptive exercise programs help alleviate the pain of arthritis and increase range of motion for stroke patients, those recovering from injury, and those who are physically challenged by disabilities.

Warm Water Benefits

  • Increases joint mobility and endurance
  • Increases energy and tolerance to activity
  • Improves muscle strength, tone and flexibility
  • Improves balance and coordination
  • Increases circulation and respiration
  • Relieves pain, stress and fatigue
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Improves posture and body alignment

Wes and Eva, a young couple in their 80s, say the pool has not only kept them active and healthy, it has literally kept them on their feet. After a total knee replacement, Wes was able to quickly gain back his mobility through warm water therapy. And Eva, a client with post-polio syndrome, credits the warm water aquatics for keeping her out of a wheelchair.

Adults are not the only ones who benefit from the warm water of the pool. Through partnerships with area school districts, as well as private lessons, children of all ages and range of ability come to the center weekly for swimming lessons and recreation. For many of these children, the warmth of the water allows their muscles to relax and provides them with flexibility and a range of motion not possible in the cooler temperatures of other pools. For many young clients, especially those with cerebral palsy, the compression they feel from being in the water aids their circulation, respiratory and digestive functions.

The Portland aquatic facility is owned by Easter Seals Oregon and operated by Providence Health Systems.
