Camp Easter Seals
Camp Without Barriers for Children and Adults with Disabilities

American Camping Association Accredited Camp logo

The mission of Easter Seals camping programs is to provide safe, fun camping opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. Camp Easter Seals recognizes the gifts and potential of our campers. We create an environment that emphasizes the campers’ ability and independence, as well as the development of their leisure skills, social skills, and appreciation of the outdoors. Participants make friends, learn about and explore nature, sing songs around the camp fire, gain confidence, and create memories that linger long after the camp fires have died down.

Our summer residential camp, which is fully accredited by the American Camping Association, is located at Camp Stand By Me in Vaughn, WA, about three hours north of Portland, and operated in partnership with Easter Seals Washington.

2009 Camp Sessions

This year we are pleased to annouce that Oregon campers can attend any week they want (depending on availability). In years past, Oregon campers were only allowed to attend one of three weeks that were set aside. Please visit the Easter Seals Washington website for details on camp dates: http://www.wa.easterseals.com/

Camp Easter Seals is open to anyone age seven and above who has a diagnosed disability. We serve people with a wide array of ability levels and try very hard to accommodate all campers, including those with moderate behavioral or medical considerations. Campers who need more care than we are able to provide may be able to attend with personal attendant(s) at no extra charge.

Staff and Volunteers

Camp Easter Seals takes pride in maintaining a high ratio of staff to campers (1:2 minimum). We hire positive, enthusiastic people who are willing to work hard, have fun, and provide a great camp experience for our clients. Most of our staff members are college students who have dedicated their summers to helping others. Our cabin counselors live in the cabins with the campers throughout the week and assist them with all areas of their daily routines. Our program leaders are experienced in leading challenging, age-appropriate activities. Our volunteers are typically high school students willing to share their gifts and talents while living onsite. All go through extensive training prior to service. Our health care staff consists of a registered nurse, on site 24 hours a day, as well as an on-call physician.

Activities

All camp activities are adapted to serve campers and their needs for that particular one-week session. They are designed to challenge our campers yet allow for a successful outcome. All activities are reviewed for safety and are scheduled on an age-appropriate basis. Some of our favorite activities include:

  • Swimming
  • Horseback Riding
  • Boating
  • Fishing
  • Archery
  • Dances
  • Skits
  • Talent Shows
  • Arts and Crafts
